![]() ![]() Both bikes have undergone changes and updates-neither are totally stock. The bottom two images show a '87 Legend with Suntour Sprint ( pics via Vintage Lotus Bicycles). And so on…Īs for this post, the first two images show an '86 Legend with Shimano 600EX components. '86 brake levers are non-aero, the '87 has aero. The '87’s fork is really nice too-it lacks any Lotus logo but the crown is a smoothly integrated, totally chromed piece of beauty. I prefer the '87 because it’s setup with Suntour Sprint components, which I think is a fantastic group-fine craftsmanship, handsome anodizing, and solid functionality. The ‘86 and '87 Legend are very similar yet different. Nice tubing and very nice overall detailing too, including fully chromed frame (seat stays, chain stays, and fork remain bare). Lotus used Tange tubing on a number of models-this one uses #1 or #2 depending on the frame size. All bikes above this model came with tubulars. Why this model? The Legend was the highest model in their hierarchy that came with clincher rims/tires. ![]() The Legend is my current Lotus obsession, specifically the 1987 model. ![]()
